New Shoes

I'm so excited about these new shoes from Payless! I think they'll be super cute to wear with tights and skirts. Now I need to practice walking! :)

Soups

Last week I made Tom Yum soup with lots of veggies and tofu. I loved it! I'm definitely making it again.
Tonight I made Miso soup with curry rice. Miso soup is so fast to make and good. It's also an easy way to make tofu. The curry rice has raisins and pine nuts. I love cooked raisins and pine nuts!
And an unrelated photo, look at beautiful Mom and Dee Dee!!!

Hula Hooping

Rafael and I played with hula hoops at the Common Ground Fair this weekend. I've been hula hooping since last winter for exercise and so has Raf a little. I love it! Here are some videos of me at the fair:

I'm going to post about me and my own hula hoops later. Get excited! :)

Dinner Tonight

I just love egg whites lately. They're so light, healthy, and delicious! Tonight was a perfect night to cook with them because I needed to hurry and make dinner between yoga and Rafael's soccer game. We ate egg whites scrambled with tomatoes and cilantro, and refried beans with cheese on the side. It was a real protein meal! I had Ghost Peep for dessert:
I LOVE Peeps!!!!! (I put it in the plant for a dramatic effect.) I discovered it's really fun to take photos of them. Expect to see more! :)

Pollo Misti

After my day in the city, Rafael and Mr. Cruz picked me up and took me to a Peruvian restaurant in Port Chester. I think it's one of their favorites, and I like it too! I'm pretty sure this is the back: See Raf? It's a little hard to see, but Raf and his dad had Mazamorra to drink. It's made from purple corn and it has a sweet, spicy flavor that reminds me of Fall. For an appetizer we had Papa Huaycaina: It's cold slices of potatoes and a cheese sauce. I love it. Raf and his dad had Pescado Saltado for dinner: They liked it. It has fish with french fries, tomatoes, and onions. I had a Papa Rellena: It's beef, eggs, and olives covered in potatoes. Here is a nice picture of Rafael and Mr. Cruz: They smiled nicely. :) Here are some desserts:We ate the one on the top right called Leche Asada. It reminded me of custard we make. Deli delicious! Inca Kola :)

A Day in the City

Jennifer and I met up for a lovely day in New York on Saturday. It was really fun to spend time with her and hang out in a different city. We walked through markets in Union Square and Washington Square. It turns out we both love to look at vegetables! I love beeswax! I took this photo for Mom:Cool felt stuff! Then we had a delicious al fresco brunch:Pretty Jennifer! We ate blueberry corn muffins, brioche french toast, pulled pork, potatoes au gratin, and eggs. Next we headed up to the Cooper Hewitt Museum.
It has a really pretty garden. I had such a nice day with Jennifer! :)

Tile Stickers

Our kitchen is tiled to about eye-level and sometimes it seems kind of bathroom-ish. I'm thinking about putting up some tile stickers to hopefully make it seem a little more kitchen-y. I learned about them recently and I think they're great for renters like Rafael and me since we're not allowed to make any permanent changes. There are some really cool patterns available. Here are a few I'm thinking of for our red-themed kitchen:Mibo Tile Tattoos. I think I could just scatter a few of these around. Allrum at Scandinavian Design Center by Gill Weibull, Marie Holmgren and Camilla Tillberg. I like the second one the best.
Allrum at Huset. This one is my favorite but I'm not sure if it's the right size for my tiles. Which one do you like the best?

Stuffed Veggies

Lately I've been trying to add some healthy new meals to my cooking repertoire. In my first two attempts I somehow ended up making stuffed vegetables. I must like them. Tonight I made tomatoes stuffed with bulgur. Here is the beautiful filling:
Besides bulgur it had onions, garlic, cumin, mint, cilantro, pine nuts, raisins, and tomato insides. I made way too much of it so I had some leftovers that I baked too. Here is the finished product:

I really liked the bulgur, which I had only eaten in tabouli, and I want to find more ways to cook it. It seems like a good alternative to pasta and rice. Unfortunately it takes a little longer to cook so I'll have to plan ahead.

Last night I made poblano peppers stuffed with polenta, black olives, raisins, pine nuts, and cheese. This meal was invented by me! I'm obsessed with cooked raisins and pine nuts. :) I also love poblano peppers.

Here they are with the rest of the stuffing:Mid-way through the cooking I decided that the peppers would need some liquid to help them cook so I added salsa. I love cheese so I put more cheddar on the top.I really liked the finished product. Next time I may use less cheese to make it healthier. I wonder what other types of veggies I could stuff!

Back to School Outfit

I felt a little jealous of everyone going back to school this year, so yesterday I wore a back-to-school outfit to work in honor of Sarah's first day of school/work. Plus, we did go back-to-school shopping this weekend.I tried to pose for a "first day of school" picture. Then I got inspired by a girl I saw posing like this on Saturday:See my purple shoes? I really liked my outfit. :)

Photos by Raf.

A Day in the City

I've been spending most of my weekends away from Boston this summer, but for a change of pace Sarah, Raf, and I spent Saturday downtown. We went to some of my favorite (and not so favorite) places. First we had to stop at work to pick up my sandals.
Blahdiblah. It got better after that. We went to the courtyard at the public library. It's like an oasis. Next we were hungry so we went to the Cactus Club where we ate delicious guacamole, jalapeno snake bites, gazpacho, taco salad, and taquitos and dined al fresco. We even had a margarita.I think I got all of the food the picture. After that we went shopping. I was so full I forgot to take pictures. After a while we got a little thirsty so we went to Tealuxe. I had a green tea milkshake and Sarah had iced chai with bubbles. Aside from Chinatown, I think Tealuxe has the best bubble tea. Ha!Sarah is so pretty! :) Thank you Sarah and Rafael for such a nice day!

Shorty's

Shorty's has been one of my favorite NH restaurants for a long time. I like to go there for my birthday because I was born close to Thanksgiving and I'm usually in New Hampshire then. They've always had really good food and it's a fun place to eat. Mom, Sarah, Rafael, and I ate there this weekend.
I like how it's decorated. Happy fam. I have to stop putting my thumb over the flash. It was deli delicious! I love flan.
